Season 2024-25

2024/25 saw St Mirren competing in European competition for the first time in 37 years. Having finished fifth the previous season they took their place in the 2nd Qualifying round of the Conference League.
On the 25th July they drew 0-0 with Icelandic club Valur in Reykjavik before winning 4-1 in the return leg the following week. Unfortunately, the adventure ended in the next round following a with a 1-1 draw at home and a 3-1 defeat away to Norwegians SK Brann.

In between the four European matches, they had opened the league campaign with a 3-0 defeat of Hibernian and a 1-3 loss at Aberdeen. Amongst the scorers in these six matches were defenders Shaun Rooney and Alex Iacovitti along with midfielders Oisin Smyth and Roland Idowu who had all signed during the summer. They were joined by goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe, midfielder Denis Adeniran and a return for former loanee Jaden Brown on a permanent deal.

August brought further new arrivals with Dutch forward Kevin van Veen and Irish midfielder Killian Phillips arriving on loan from Groningen and Crystal Palace respectively. The opening 15 league matches were inconsistent with 5 wins, 3 draws and 7 defeats. The form was not helped by the departure of Brown, Rooney and van Veen following separate off field incidents which led to court appearances for all of them.

It took some time for the side to recover from the loss of the players but the arrival of wing backs Declan John and Ryan Alebiosu, and the return of loanee goalkeeper Zach Hemming in December/January gave the side a better balance.

On the 12th April a late goal from Roland Idowu earned a 3-2 win over Ross County which secured a third consecutive top six finish for the first time in 40 years.

Unfortunately, despite remaining undefeated in the five post-split matches, they missed out on the European places. Neither the Scottish or League Cups could provide any cheer with early exits in both competitions. Over the season the club was again honoured with players gaining international caps with Alex Gogic, Jonah Ayunga, Elvis Bwomono and Killian Phillips all playing for their respective countries.
