Season 2022-23

As Stephen Robinson prepared for his first full season in charge, he was able to retain the majority of the previous season's squad. Notable losses were goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, defender Conor McCarthy and midfielders Alan Power, Jamie McGrath and loanee Connor Ronan who returned to his parent club. Also departing were academy graduates Cammy MacPherson and Kyle McAllister.

In their place arrived Northern Ireland international keeper Trevor Carson, Australian duo Ryan Strain and Keanu Baccus, former Motherwell midfielder Mark O’Hara and forwards Jonah Ayunga and Toyosi Olusanya.

The season began with a disappointing group stage exit from the league cup from a group that contained Arbroath, Airdrie, Cowdenbeath and Edinburgh City. The manager defended his side's poor showing claiming that due to the early start of the competition, the squad was still developing.

When the league season started, this viewpoint was backed up as Saints recorded six wins and a draw in the opening 11 games, leaving them 4th in the table. Highlight of the period was a 2-0 defeat of Celtic.

They continued to show consistency and come season's end they finished in 6th place...the highest finish in 38 years.

Top scorer was captain Mark O’Hara with 12 goals in all competitions, seven of them from the penalty spot.

One major highlight of the season was international recognition for the club with five players winning 17 full caps for four different countries over the season. In November 2022 Keanu Baccus became the first ever Saints player to appear at the World Cup when he played in all four games as Australia reached the last 16 of the competition. He went on to play six times for the Socceroos during the season. He was followed by Alex Gogic with 5 caps for Cyprus, Alex Greive winning 3 for New Zealand , Ryan Strain two for Australia and Trevor Carson one for Northern Ireland.

October 2022 also saw Declan Gallagher called into the Scotland squad for matches against Republic of Ireland and Croatia, however he was not called into action in either match. He was the first Saints player called into a Scots squad since Craig Samson in September 2012.
