Season 1962-63

1962-63 gave little to cheer the Saints following. Form was poor from the start with several heavy defeats, most notably 0-7 at home to Celtic and 0-5 at Tynecastle. As a result of these results Bobby Flavell left the club to be replaced with Jackie Cox, but he could not change the fortunes. Even an unexpected mid-season break when due to bad weather only one match was played during an eight week period could not help them sort out their problems.
The one high point of the entire season came against Hearts when Don Kerrigan and Bobby Carroll destroyed the Tynecastle men with four and three goals respectively in a 7-3 win.
Many thought this match would encourage better performances, but the team slid further down into the relegation battle and survival was not secured until a 2-1 victory over Dundee United in the second last match of the year!
