Season 1930-31

The thirties began in similar style to the twenties, with the first season seeing Saints post their lowest finish for a number of years, although this was not quite as bad as the low of 1921. They finished 15th from twenty teams.

Top scorer for the season was Davie McCrae with 16 goals, to create a club scoring record of being top marksman for seven consecutive seasons. This record still stands to this day, although it has been equalled once in the 1940’s.

The Scottish Cup provided some diversion from the poor league form. After defeating Clydebank (3-1), Clyde (1-1, 3-1) Falkirk (2-0) and Third Lanark (1-1, 3-0) they met Motherwell in the semi-final at Ibrox. In a hard fought match ‘Well edged Saints out 1-0.
