At a meeting on the 7th July 1916, it was announced that
Mr WH Lamond was to become manager/secretary of St Mirren Juniors Football Club.
An application had been lodged to become
members of the Glasgow Junior Football League, at the time the best league in the country at Junior level.
A second
meeting on the 14th July told members that the application to the Glasgow leagues had been turned down and that Pollok Juniors
had been elected. This was the ninth year running that Pollok had applied for membership, so Saints knew how hard it was going
to be.
On the 18th July, Saints received confirmation that they had been accepted into the Scottish Junior Football
League for the coming season.
Mr James Weir was introduced as the trainer for the Juniors. He had played for St Mirren
between 1909 and 1913, scoring twice in 69 matches for the first team. He had a good knowledge of the junior game having joined
Saints from Kilwinning Rangers and joined Arthurlie after leaving Love Street.
With manager and trainer in place
the team began training for the coming campaign.
Their first match was played on the 1st August 1916 when they played
The Nomads, a select team from the junior leagues. This was a very succesful outing with St Mirren running out 5-4 winners,
having led 4-1 at half time.
After this match it was down to the real business and the Scottish Junior League.
