Tommy Workman

Tommy Workman was born in Paisley on the 31st May 1909.
He joined St Mirren from Carlile Juvenile in the late 1920's, but failed to make a breakthrough and left for Arthurlie shortly after.
Following a spell with Bridgeton Waverley, he rejoined Saints in 1931 and became a valuable member of the first team, playing either centre forward or inside right. He also turned out at right half on a few occasions.
Equipped with a good shot, he was a firm favourite with the fans.
His final match for Saints came against Hamilton on the 30th December 1933.
Having picked up an injury in this match he missed the New Year victories over Kilmarnock and Queen of the South.
He was taken into hospital during this period suffering from appendicitis.
Sadly, complications set in after his surgery and Tommy died on the 8th January 1934.
A memorial was erected in Paisley's Woodside Cemetry in his honour by the St. Mirren Football Club.
