As a reward for finishing third in the Premier Division
in season 1979-80 the Saints board organised a tour of Brazil prior to the start of season 1980-81.
They arranged a match
against Athletico Cluba Bangu and hoped to set up further games whilst there.
The match against Bangu was played on the
5th June 1980 and saw Saints lose 2-0.
The following day they faced Vitoria Santos and a local business man put up a
trophy for the winners.
Alan Logan scored the only goal of the game to bring the trophy home to Paisley.
Before
flying home Saints played a third match on the 10th June against Cortiba and Logan was again on target in a very creditable
1-1 draw.
