1891-92
1891-92 For season 1891-92, the league was extended to twelve teams
and Saints began to close the gap on some of the other clubs. Rangers, who had dealt easily with Saints
during the first season were fortunate to gain a 4-3 victory at Westmarch in the first meeting and
were defeated 3-2 at Ibrox at the end of the season.Saints
had arrived!A sad event during this season
was the tragic and untimely death of James Dunlop, who fell on a piece of glass injuring his knee during
a New Years Day friendly at Abercorn. Tetanus set into the wound and James died on the eleventh
January 1892. A sad loss to St.Mirren and to football. A monument was erected in his memory by the people of Paisley in the towns Woodside
Crematorium, where it still stands today.
