Second Division

1935-36

Following relegation from the top flight in 1934-35, for the first time in their history, St.Mirren underwent much change for the start of season 1935-36.
After much boardroom unrest the entire board of directors had been replaced and James Adam took over as Chairman from George Gilmour.

A new right wing partnership of William Gall and Patrick McCamon arrived to link with Centre forward Jimmy McGregor and the left wing pairing of Jimmy Knox and Johnny Latimer. These men were to form one of the most successful forward lines in the clubs history, netting a combined total of 98 goals in just 34 league matches. Jimmy McGregor led the way with 40, followed closely by Jimmy Knox with 31. In total Saints scored 114 goals in the 34 matches, a club record that will probably never be bettered.

If it were not for a couple of back to back 2-0 defeats at the beginning of April Saints could have been champions, but a 2nd place finish restored some of the battered pride and gained promotion back to the First Division.

Promotion was assured on the 21st March with a 7-0 thrashing of Brechin City.
