John Goold. Not much is known about John Goold, but his place in St. Mirren's history is unique, as he has the distinction of being the clubs first ever goal scorer when they beat Johnstone Britannia 1-0 on the 6th October 1877, in front of a grand crowd of THREE people! He played for Saints in at least the following two seasons and scored the goal when they reached their first Renfrewshire Cup final in 1880/81, but could not stop Thornliebank winning 3-1. No other records of his career are known, but his name will be remembered forever.
