Date of Birth:

27 Sept 1949

Birthplace:

Jimmy Bone played for Celtic, Norwich City, Toronto Blizzard and Partick Thistle before joining St. Mirren from Arbroath in 1978.
He played, and scored, in Thistles League Cup victory over Celtic in 1971.
With Saints, Jimmy was a consistent performer and his experience was beneficial to the younger players in the team. He was made captain of the team and led them to victory in the Anglo Scottish Cup in 1980 and into Europe in 1980/81.
He scored some memorable goals in his time at Love Street, the pick of the lot being against Aberdeen on 3/1/81 when he collected the ball inside his own half, took on three Dons defenders and slotted the ball coolly behind  Jim Leighton to give Saints the lead in a 1-1 draw.
Jimmy left Love Street in 1982. In his four years he had played 161 matches, scoring 32 goals along the way.
He returned to the club in 1987 as assistant manager to Alex Smith, and played his part in steering the club to victory in the Scottish Cup and the Singapore Cup of 1987.
After departing in April 1988 after a well publicised bust up with Frank McGarvey, he continued his career in Zambia, leading his team to the league title.
He was to return to Love Street for a third time in 1992 as manager, but was unable to guide the Saints out of the First Division and resigned in 1996.
