Willie Reid arrived at Love Street from Dumbarton, making his debut on 11 August 1945. Over the following years he was an outstanding player for Saints in his wing half position. He was appointed assistant manager in 1954 to cover for Bobby Rankin during his illness, and took the job permanently after Bobby's death later that year. Reid will always be remembered for leading the team to the Scottish Cup in 1959, before leaving to join Norwich City in 1961.
