Tommy Bryceland

Date of Birth:

Birthplace:

Tommy Bryceland joined St Mirren from Greenock Juniors in 1956 and made his home debut in a 2-0 win against Dunfermline on the 18th August 1956. 5' 7" tall, Tommy was an inside-forward in the classic Scottish mould. The highlight of his St Mirren career was heading the first goal in the 1959 Scottish Cup Final. He was known as a very cheeky player. Tommy was transferred to Norwich City. He then played for Oldham Athletic before returning to Love Street as Player/Manager in succession to Wilson Humphries. His time as St Mirren manager wasn't a happy one and only lasted a year and a half. At the start of his management career he was forced to sell Gordon McQueen, Gus McLeod, Jim Blair and Iain Munro the clubs only four players of true quality. It all came to an end when it was decided that Saints needed a youth policy and Tam felt he should step down.
