He scored his first goal in a 4-2 win over Dundee in October and played a big part in the Anglo Scottish Cup winning campaign of that season, his crosses providing the opportunities for the strikers to net many goals.

He left Saints in May 1981 to rejoin Fergie at Aberdeen and played his part in the domestic and European glories of the eighties, winning 2 League Championships, 3 Scottish Cups, 1 League Cup, European Cup Winners Cup and European Super Cup.
He gained a further two international caps against Switzerland ( 30/03/1983 ) and Northern Ireland ( 13/12/1983 )  before moving to Leicester City in January 1988.This move was not a success and ten months later he was on his way back to Love Street in a £140,000 deal. He remained at Love Street until the end of 1989-90 when he joined Ayr United.
In his two spells at Saints he played 124 matches and scored 13 goals.
