Player Profile

Norrie McWhirter

Date of Birth:

04 Sept 1969

Birthplace:

Johnstone

Norrie signed for Saints in 1985 from Linwood Rangers and made his debut as a sub at Pittodrie on 28/3/87 in a 1-0 victory.
He scored his first goal for the club at Easter Road in a 1-1 draw on 5/9/87.
Playing the majority of the time in a central defence or sweeper role his scoring exploits were limited, but in season 1993/94 he played in midfield and bagged seven strikes!
Unfortunately, Norrie's career was blighted by injury and he missed large portions of the following few seasons and this shows in his overall appearances of 280 starts and 21 substitute matches in thirteen seasons, scoring eleven goals.
After missing the entire 1999/2000 championship season through injury, Norrie decided to call time on his career, and St.Mirren lost a true Saint.
One of the last one club men, it was disappointing that he had to retire at the young age of 31, without winning any major honours with Saints.
He did manage one appearance for the Scotland under-21 team, but his injuries prevented him from displaying his undoubted talents on a wider stage.
Popular throughout his time at Love Street, Norrie was honoured with a testimonial in 1999.
