John Miller joined Saints in 1924 from
Petershill after a successful junior career which also saw him represent Renfrew
and Yoker.
He was to remain at
Love Street
for the next fifteen years and played over 300 matches in the stripes.
His unremitting tackling, pace and skill saw him a firm favourite with the fans
and he was soon earning the attention of the international selectors
and he was chosen to play for
Scotland
against
England
in May 1931.
Further caps arrived against
Italy
and
Switzerland
that same year, He played against France
in 1932, before slipping from the international scene for a season
but was back in the side for a match against
England
in April 1934.
He was part of the Saints team that reached the final of the Scottish Cup in
1934; unfortunately Rangers were too strong and won 5-0.
Miller continued to perform with consistency until 1939 when he left the club.
A great servant to St.Mirren.
