John Cameron signed for St.Mirren in
1900/01 from Kirkwood Thistle making his debut against Rangers in a friendly on
the 20th August in a friendly match. His competitive debut came a fortnight
later against Morton. He appeared irregularly in the team over
this season and the beginning of the next one. This was all to change however after
starring in a match against Hearts in October 1901 which started a sequence of
matches which saw him fill the left back role in 48 consecutive league matches
covering two seasons, more often than not partnering Thomas Jackson at full
back. His performances soon caught the eye ad
he was chosen to play for the Scottish League against the Irish League in
February 1903. He won a full cap against Ireland in March 1904 before further
League appearances against the English and Irish Leagues in April 1904. Unfortunately these performances also attracted attention from other clubs and Blackburn Rovers lured him away at the end of the season.
