Gudmunder Torfason, or 'Guni' as he was known to Saints fans, joined St.Mirren
from Rapid Vienna and quickly
became a firm favourite of the fans with his skills, especially from free-kicks
and long range shooting power.
He made his competetive debut in a 1-0 victory over Rangers at Ibrox in the
first match of season 1989-90.
He played in 28 games that first season scoring 12 goals, pick of these being a

In season 1991-92, Saints were plummeting towards relegation and Guni was again
the top scorer with eight strikes from 28 starts, including a hat-trick against
Airdrie. He played in the first match of season 92-93 but left to join
St.Johnstone.
