Dave McCrae made his debut against Hibs on 2/4/24 and would score three goals in five games that season. In his second season he would score 29 goals in 35 games. Season 25-26 saw Dave score in the Scottish Cup win over Celtic (2-0). In season 26-27 he managed to score two hat-tricks. In season 1927-28 he achieved scored five against Clyde (6-1). In season 28-29 he would score 25 times and play for Scotland against Norway, scoring twice, and Germany. Season 29-30 saw Dave score two more hat-tricks. In Season 30-31 he would score four goals in four days against Clyde (3-1) and Falkirk (2-0). A serious injury kept him out for most of 1931-32. In season 31-32 he would score 3 hat-tricks. Season 33-34 saw the end of his Saints career. He made a total of 417 appearances and scored 317 goals in total (club record of 221 league goals). He also scored 7 of the goals in an 8-5 reserve team victory over Dundee in season 1932-33.
