Bobby Rankine joined St.Mirren in 1926, making a scoring debut with two goals in a 4-0 victory over Dunfermline on 13 November 1926. A prolific player for Saints, scoring 90 goals in 250
appearances, and winning three caps for Scotland prior to moving to Beith after a dispute with the club.
He returned in 1937, but the advent of WW2 was to end his playing career. He became a director in 1941 and then took over as manager in 1945 until his untimely death in 1954. His legacy to St. Mirren was to bring players such as Davie Lapsley, Tommy Gemmell and Jackie Nielson to Paisley.
