Alistair Miller signed from Third Lanark in 1957. An accomplished outside left,
he was to be a major part of Saints 1959 cup winning team. Indeed, many,
including the great Davie Lapsley, credit Miller with winning the semi-final.
His two goals and overall domination of the Celtic defence contributed greatly
to the 4-0 victory.
Another goal in the final against Aberdeen, was to cement his place as a Love
Street legend. He went onto play a further part in Saints history when he netted
in the 15-0 demolition of Glasgow
University in 1960 and scored another goal in an 8-0 Scottish Cup win over Third
Lanark in 1961.
He left for Norwich City in 1962. In his five seasons at the
club he played 153 games and scored 31 goals. Miller was to return to Love
Street briefly, in 1972 as caretaker manager, but he did not want the job permanently
and gave way to Tommy Bryceland after a few games.
