Alfie arrived in Scotland during the war with the Polish Army. He was originally based in the North of the country and played for a time with Highland League club Forres Mechanics. Press report from this period of his career referred to him as ‘The Polish Outside left’ due to difficulties with the names of several Polish players playing in the area!!
In 1947 he was transferred to the Polish resettlement corps in Johnstone which is four miles from Paisley where St.Mirren play.

As a result of this he joined Saints in August 1947 and made his debut against Aberdeen in a League match on the 26th August that year. His first (and second) goals came on the 6th September in a 7-1 thrashing of Queen of the South at Love Street.

Noted for his pace and ability on the wing he quickly became a favourite with players and fans alike. He formed a great partnership with Johnny Deakin on the left wing and their contribution to the team was vital. An exuberant and exciting player he always gave 100% for Saints and thrilled the fans with his pace and accurate crossing.

He left for Worcester City in August 1952. In his five seasons at Love Street he played in a total of 131 competitive matches and scored 37 goals. Add to this a vast number of ‘assists’ and his value to Saints is evident.
