John Cochran is without doubt one of the most successful managers in the clubs history, arriving from Johnstone in 1916. He steered the team to glory in the 1919 Victory Cup, the Barcelona Cup in 1922 and their first Scottish Cup in 1926. He left the club in 1928 and led Sunderland to the FA Cup in 1937- becoming the first manager to win the national cups on both sides of the border.
