Alex Smith enjoyed a twelve year stint as manager of Stirling Albion, and was boss when they recorded the amazing 20-0 demolition of Selkirk in the 1984 Scottish Cup. He was to steer Saints to victory in the 1987 Scottish Cup and then claimed the Epson Cup in Singapore, but his stay at Love Street was short, and he left in April 1988.
