Celtic
Legend Patsy Gallagher missed a penalty in this match!
The attendance of 20,000 was a new record for love Street.
Ironically, Celtic were the opponents when this record was broken in
1925 and
again in 1947!

Saints were awarded a 'Victory Cup Shield' for this
match, as no cup had yet been made, but it eventually ended up at Love
Street and both trophies remain there today!
|
|
In
1946 a second Victory Cup competition was played to mark the end of the Second
World War.
Saints were not succesful in this tournament, as, after defeating East Stirling
5-3 on aggregate in the first round, they went out to Raith Rovers 1-2, in the
second!
